Lilly's Purple Plastic PurseDuring the spring of the 2017-2018 school year we performed Lilly's Purple Plastic Purse. One of the motivations behind selecting this show is we like taking one production to the local elementary schools, and we hadn't yet had the chance to do that this year. This was also a show that Mrs. Lewis was in when she was in college. It was a very fun show that the elementary school children loved!

We took stories written by Sullivans and Ikego Elementary School students and made them into short scenes and songs. Our logo was designed by Ty Bair, one of our students. We had students write songs and adapt the stories into a script. It was a lot of fun for us and for the elementary school students.

2020 FED: Peter PanFor 2020 Far East we prepared a one act version of Peter Pan adapted from the novel. It was an especially strong cast who was prepared to receive a superior rating at Far East. However, three days before we were to leave, the Far East festival was canceled due to a COVID-19 outbreak in Korea. We were all devastated. We decided to add a second weekend of performances and the base community came and supported these wonderfully talented students.

2020 Story MachineIn the spring of 2020 we did our second Story Machine where we performed stories written by Sullivans and Ikego Elementary school students. Two weeks after auditions, school went to "home learning" due to COVID-19 and the resulting modified shelter in place. We continued this project in our homes by collaborating via Google Docs to finish writing scripts. Then after Spring Break we found that we wouldn't be returning to school for the rest of the year. We then started voice recording our stories and editing them with sound effects and illustrations by students. This resulted in 12 youtube videos that are on this playlist: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL0NPlMEx00nG_J8jra9JrRB81Yff10Cj2

FED 2021: Solo SpotlightsIn the fall and winter of the 2020-2021 school year we performed a collection of monologues and vocal solos that we called "Solo Spotlights." Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic and the mitigation strategies in place, the only show that we could do so actors could stay 6 feet apart. Each actor prepared a monologue. However, we knew that this wouldn't be adjudicated, so we selected monologues for actors that would allow them to stretch and grow.
This ended up being our Far East production, so we technically had 18 students attend Far East this year. Far East was virtual this year so we attended in the KHS Little Theater. There were three theater professionals who attended, one who was a Kinnick alumni. |
21 Chump StreetJazmyne, our Drama Club president, really wanted to do 21 Chump Street by Lin-Manuel Miranda. So in the spring of the 2020-2021 school year we applied for and were given permission to perform this musical because it was such a small cast. Jazmyne directed this show, this was the first time we have had a student directed production and she did a fantastic job!
We were also given permission for a performance for the families of cast and crew and two performances for students. All other performances were online via booktix. |

We were happy that many of our new actors came with talent and experience. It was the first production for five of these cast members. It was a high energy and fun production for this group of talented actors.

Seussical Jr.In the spring of the 2021-2022 school year we decided to repeat a show for the first time. We felt that it would be a good fit for our cast and we also had choreography videos from the talented Amanda Roberts who choreographed our Seussical Jr. five years prior. It was great to have a large cast musical and we were able to perform without masks!! We had 10 performances, 6 for elementary school classes and 4 for the public.

Mary Poppins Jr.In the fall of the 2023-2024 school year we performed Mary Poppins Jr. with a cast of 34 students (14 middle school and 20 high school students.

FED 2024: Radium GirlsFor our Far East Drama production, we performed Radium Girls (Competition) by D.W. Gregory. We received our sixth superior rating for a one act. We also earned 5 out of the available 10 spots for scenes and monologues on main stage, so for the first time, we had all 10 of our team members perform their monologue/solo performance or due/duet on main stage to be adjudicated. Nine if our students received awards for these performances. This team worked very hard and was patient as we continually cut lines and tightened the show to be under the 40 minute time limit.
